The Rules of Science Industry Australia provide:
Rule 2, Membership qualifications
- A Member is an organisation which is a producer, provider or user of science industry goods and/or services. A Member is entitled to receive notices of and participate in meetings of the Association and vote thereat and the Nominated Representative of a Member is eligible for election to National Council.
- An Affiliate Member is an organisation which does not qualify for admission as a Member in terms of its activities as set out in clause (3), but which has interests and objectives in common with the science industry. An Affiliate Member is entitled to receive notices of and participate in meetings of the Association but is not entitled to vote thereat and the Nominated Representative of an Affiliate Member is not eligible to be elected to National Council.
- "Science industry goods and/or services" means:-
- scientific, research and technological products and equipment;
- scientific activities including analysis, sampling, testing and research and development;
- scientific, research and technological product support services, including training, maintenance, information processing and information retrieval; and
- software for scientific research and technological products and equipment.
- Each member may nominate in writing to the Secretary the name of one person who shall be the Nominated Representative of the member. In the absence of a written nomination, the most senior Australian manager of the member will be the Nominated Representative.
